Charlene and Leon – Japan Destination Wedding Photography

It’s easy for us to call this the most memorable, unique Wedding we’ve ever attended. Charlene and Leon chose us to capture Japan Destination Wedding Photography for their first Wedding in Japan, along with another Wedding in Brisbane {Part 2 coming soon to the blog}!

What makes this Wedding the MOST unique Wedding we’ve ever photographed?

  • We helped break a WORLD record – the most flowergirls for a single Wedding!
  • The most most dramatic, constantly changing weather we’ve ever photographed in during a Wedding!
  • The most outfit changes and several unique Japanese cultural traditions!
  • Easily the most unscheduled, epic celebration that just went with the flow!

We arrived at the park in Hita, Japan to find a rather chaotic, but organised crowd busy registering all 253 flower girls. The girls had to wear an outfit made especially for the Wedding in order to qualify for the world record. How did they manage this huge feat? Charlene worked as a school teacher in Japan, so she used her connections to have some of her students to break this world record! She had a gorgeous skirt that had been decorated by her students and it was evident she was well-loved by all the children.

After getting ready in the building next to the park, we all awaited a clear break in the weather. Having TV stations and official Guinness World Record representatives there meant we needed to proceed – so we did!

We had 253 flower girls proceed down the aisle – it was a sight to watch! They high fived Leon and took their places. It started to rain a little – but we all pushed on – we had to take the official world-record breaking photo! After the short but sweet ceremony, we raced to the top of the building to capture it. We were ambitious and had put forward the idea of them standing in a heart shape – which took a little extra effort in the cold, rainy weather, but paid off beautifully in what has become an official world-record breaking photo.

After a break in the rain, we captured a quick group photo with all of Leon and Charlene’s guests, before getting ready for outfit #2 – a traditional kimono! It was amazing to see the process and the layers. The kimono could not be worn outside if it was raining at all – and it started raining again! Thankfully, we were able to wait out the rain and truly showcase the stunning outfits.

After a third and equally stunning outfit change, we all enjoyed several more cultural traditions, spontaneous dancing, some really fun performances and an epic farewell song!

What a blast it was to be involved in your day – thank you for having us capture such spectacular fun Charlene and Leon!

Tarni and Lindsay love the water so for the second half of their Gold Coast Beach Engagement Photoshoot, we had some fun with these beach lovers! Instead of just having a typical engagement shoot, theirs was part formal, part playful in the water.
