You read correctly – Alexandra and Paul – Toronto Canada Destination Wedding! We are so excited and pleased to share Wedding photography brought to you all the way from Toronto.
Seriously, this Wedding was already amazing simply due to the cool background story of this couple. Alex, a Canadian, Paul, an Australian, living in Uluru in the middle of Australia. What more can I say! If you didn’t read about their story on the Engagement Shoot blog post, you totally should! Read about it here on the blog: https://sunlitstudios.com.au/gold-coast-country-engagement-photography/
Cameron’s story
I have a love for travel, so making the 30+ hour journey to join them in Toronto, Canada was a pleasure. After a few days to overcome jet lag, I spent hours the day before scouting the area of the wedding Venue, Hotel Ocho, making sure I had the very best spots lined up for use the next day. I had spent hours already reviewing local photographers work and Google Earth, but I wanted to see the options with my own eyes before committing to a photo route. Time was limited, and I never like to rely on what other photographers have done in the past.
Located smack-bang in the middle of Toronto’s centre, Hotel Ocho is surrounded by busy streets (both cars and pedestrians), the city’s streetcar, and towering buildings. Believe it or not (I know I couldn’t!), it is also just one street away from what is literally called “Graffiti Alley”! I’m not usually a fan of “city” weddings; options tend to be limited, as is natural light with all the big buildings blocking the sun. That WASN’T the problem this time – I had TOO MANY options! Being selective, I picked out a couple of spots, including a quirky community garden for a some natural, green backdrop in some of the photographs. Natural light was a bit tricky still, but as we were walking back we caught a ray of light coming in between some buildings right on a busy street corner (I mean people-dodging-us-due-to-the-size-of-the-crowd kind of busy). I simply had to take advantage of it, and so we stood our ground as a snapped away. I LOVE the results – I hope you do too 🙂
Hotel Ocho, Toronto, Canada was also a winner! A well picked venue for the style of Alex and Paul’s Wedding, it was full of class. It offers two levels, with a void between the two so you can see below from upstairs in certain parts. Downstairs was the Ceremony location, with upstairs reserved for the Reception. The staff were super friendly and accomodating, even providing me with a ladder to use for various angles (I couldn’t fit my usual ladder in my checked in bag, no surprise there!). I would definitely recommend Hotel Ocho, Toronto, Canada.
The venue and decorations add to the atmosphere to a Wedding, particularly the Reception. But make really MAKES the atmosphere is the people, and Alex and Paul successfully gathered some of the nicest people you could meet. And it wasn’t just the locals, just been nice to the foreign photographer. Even the Aussies who travelled from Australia were so helpful to me throughout the day. The things shared during the speeches about Alex and Paul were really no surprise, they really just confirmed what I had already come to know – they really are a fun, positive, genuine couple. Their family and friends were also a testament to that.
Congratulations Alex and Paul on your Toronto Canada Destination Wedding, it was a huge success!
