Hollie and Max’s Elegant Boho Maleny Wedding
Hollie and Max had an amazing Maleny Manor Wedding, located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
We had a chance to ask them a few questions about their Wedding experience:
Tell us about your proposal?
Max and I were on a 5 week European holiday from December 2012 to January 2013 visiting family in England and travelling from there through France, Italy, Germany and Prague. On our way home we had a few days in Dubai where I (Hollie) spent six years as a child. On our last night, Max hired a private yacht which sailed us through the Persian gulf visiting the highlights of what Dubai has to offer off land and stopping in front of the Palm Atlantis for sunset. The sky was an incredible orange and red colour and as the sun hit the horizon Max turned to me and said ‘Baby will you marry me?
What led you to decide on your venue?
Believe it or not, Max and I only viewed one venue. We knew we wanted to get married at the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and after visiting Maleny Manor we fell in love with it straight away! The day we viewed it we booked it. For us it was just meant to be! We had researched other venues at the Sunshine Coast but we just kept finding ourselves looking back at the Manor. Max and I knew we wanted our ceremony and reception to be at the same place, the added bonus of being able to stay the night with our immediate family was icing on the cake. The Manor’s views cannot be described in words, combined with a large tree, a vineyard, a rustic shed, a pond and extensive gardens met so many of our requirements.
What was the inspiration behind your Wedding theme?
Max and I wanted our wedding to represent us as a couple – relaxed, slightly quirky, a splash of hippie and a whole lot of happy!! Max and I really love the rustic, bohemian look with a slight French Parisian influence and that’s what established our theme. Our favourite comment from one of our friends on the day was ‘In every part of your wedding we can see you guys’ and that is exactly what we wanted. Max didn’t wear a formal suit but went for the blazer and pant option which worked so well and the boys had no jackets and bow ties. My bridesmaids wore simple white lace dresses which looked great. We had leather Chesterfield couches, coffee tables, ottomans and lots of vases and pots outside to tie our look together from the ceremony all the way through to the reception.
Favourite moment from the day?
We loved the speeches. It is amazing to see how people ‘perform’ on such an important occasion. My Father, Todd (father of the bride) has an amazing London wit which had everyone in hysterics. My dad can hold a crowd really well and managed to achieve the perfect balance between funny and sincere. I can’t resist an example; my Dad said along the lines of “Walking your daughter down the aisle is an incredibly proud and emotional day, even the wedding cake is in tiers.’ Max hates public speaking and was so nervous to stand up at the podium and speak, so I stood there with him. He had written his speech out and was trying his hardest to follow it. At one stage he was thanking his parents for taking me on as their daughter, especially when he is working away and then blurted out ‘with things like daily chores’. He then continued to say that he had no idea how much was involved in a wedding and he would come home to me cutting little pieces of card and doing ‘general wedding activity’! Max did such a great job and he isn’t one for expressing how he feels usually so it was really nice to hear the words out of his mouth. Max’s mother, brother and my sister also spoke, which were all incredible.
Any vendors that you would recommend?
Jarrad Bayliss our celebrant, WOW!!! He did the most amazing job. When you think of a celebrant, the first thing that pops into your head is the person that marries you but we know now, from experience it is so much more than that. Jarrad had thought everything through, from not standing behind us so our guests could enjoy the spectacular view, to walking my Mother (the brides Mother) down the aisle, to getting all the guests to clap as I entered the pavilion all before the ceremony. After the ceremony we signed our paper under a chandelier hanging from a beautiful tree in the garden. He got all our wedding guests to line up each side of us so we could walk through the middle whilst they threw flower petals at us and had our parents standing at the end. How amazing is that.
I cannot recommend Maleny Manor highly enough. The venue is just breath taking and the staff were out of this world. The staff knew our parents name and kept asking them throughout the whole night if they would like anything. It is really touching the efforts they went to, to ensure our day was perfect.
Mondo florists worked so closely with me throughout the whole planning process and Terrianne really understood what I was trying to achieve. The personal touch of her hand delivering the bridesmaids and my bouquet was really special, especially as she got to see my reaction when I opened the box…. I cried!!
Love Bird Weddings really listened to the brief we gave them and created our absolute dream. They called me the day before to see how I was feeling and to let me know that they had just bought some new items of furniture and they would love for me to use them if I wanted. I’m sure I wasn’t the only wedding they had that day so for them to make an effort to really place the finishing touches on our wedding was something I will never forget.
How was your experience with Sunlit Studios?
Sunlit Studios, our photographers were incredible. They captured all the important aspects of our wedding and (in a good way) it felt like they weren’t there. The photos are just stunning and Ray and Shayla were so professional and down to earth it was so lovely to share our day with them.
